7:11-8:4: "The Song of a Homesick Bride"
The Setting of the Song
Place: Jerusalem, and a village on the way to Lebanon
Time: After marriage
Occasion: The Bride, longing for the beautiful Lebanon country, suggests
a trip home, and Solomon agrees to her requests and makes the trip with her.

7:11-13 The Shulamite longs for Lebanon. "I'm tired of the city; let's get out into the country. And, oh, it would be so good to get back to Lebanon. I'm homesick, Solomon, My, what fun we'd have on the trip!" Evidently Solomon acquiesces and they soon leave. |
We do well to traverse on the feet of memory "all the way that the Lord led us," and especially to recall again and again the circumstances of His wooing and winning us to the salvation of our souls! |

8:1-2 The Bride has qualms about her brothers. The night before they arrive at Lebanon, as they "lodge in one of the villages" on the way (7:11), she becomes apprehensive and painfully aware of the great gap between her royal husband and her pain, almost boorish brothers! She apologizes for her family and tells him her fears. |
How unworthy we are to be raised by His grace to
the royalty of the heavenly family! Men at their best are, by nature, but vanity. |
| 8:3-4 Reassured by his loving harms, she drifts off to sleep to his favorite chorus. | How good to have His reassurance that we are really His own, when Satan calls attention to our deficiencies by nature. |
