- Revelation 20:1-15 THE AGE
OF THE MILLENNIUM OR KINGDOM and 21:9-22:5 THE DISPENSATION OF DIVINE RULE
Scores upon scores of texts in the Old Testament promise Israel a golden
reign of righteousness, blessing, and peace. The fulfillment of all such
promises will be accomplished in the millennial reign of Christ, It will
be the time of Israel's exaltation. See New Scofield note on the Kingdom,
At least three covenants should be considered in relation to this dispensation:
(1) The Palestinian Covenant (2) The Davidic Covenant; (3) The New Covenant.
- The key personage is
that of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- The extent of the period
is from the Second Advent of Christ to the earth to the end of the Millennium
(Great White Throne Judgment).
- The general Scripture
portions are found scattered throughout many portions of the Old and
New Testaments and in the book of Revelation (Rev. 20:1 15; 21:9-22:5).
- The characteristic or
state of man during its course,
- Israel will be head
of the nations, a converted nation ruling for God.
Dt. 28:13; Isa. 66:8
- This Kingdom will expand
to become universal. Dan. 2:44
- Christ will be here
for His personal reign. Rev. 20:6
- Righteousness will
prevail and be imposed by a "rod of iron. " Ps. 2:8
- Longevity of life will
prevail. Isa, 65:20
- Peace among dumb
creatures will obtain. Isa. 11:6-9
- The special responsibility
instituted by God. Test:
"Whether man, with Satan bound, Christ ruling, righteousness
prevailing, the humble protected, the Sermon on the Mount governing,
and disobedience punished quickly, will live righteously and trust God
for life." (Thiessen)
- The failure of man under
Man's failure is prophesied in that after the reign of a thousand years,
Satan, having been loosed, will be able to gather multitudes to join
him in an attack upon the camp of the saints. (See Rev. 20:7-9)
- The resultant judgment
will. be destruction of the rebellers by fire from heaven (Rev. 20:9),
followed by the Great White Throne Judgment (Rev. 20:11-15).
- The gracious intervention
of God will have provided, by means of the dispensational dealings of
God with man, every conceivable test to show man how completely he is
lost and how he is absolutely without hope apart; from God's grace.
No gracious intervention, therefore, is recorded, unless the eternal
separation of incorrigible wicked from Himself be so considered.
